This is one of the clearest and most public statements reflecting the divorce between Hoya/Pentax and Samsung. It seems that the Korean firm now feels sufficiently at ease to design their own photo cameras (e.g. the NX family of EVIL cameras with interchangeable lenses on a compact with electronic viewfinder). And it’s now certain that Pentax will not try to collect technology from their old partner.

This is not “Kramer vs. Kramer“, but this is no longer “Crazy, Stupid, Love“.

Through a communication in the financial world (an interview with CitiGroup analysts), Hoya (the parent company of Pentax) revealed that Pentax would soon be presenting one or more mirrorless photo cameras. This is clearly a leak and not a rumor (communication of false information in such a financial context would be illegal and seriously frowned upon) but it is still short on technical details.

On top of this, it is now clear that it will be a new avatar of EVIL camera equiped with an APS-C sensor. So, we will wait a good image quality, maybe with a simpler operation than most DSLR cameras.

Pentax announcement planned before Photokina.

Canon Japan’s Image Communication Products head Masaya Maeda revealed to Reuters what seems to be that Canon will not be part of the race to get a new EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens). Canon is thinking about using its own good position in the SLR market to build more small SLR cameras at a rock bottom price, rather than trying to create a new line of EVIL cameras.

It makes senses, for them.
